Krys Foundation

krys foundationThe Krys Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that was formally organized in 2006. The dedicated financial support provided through the Krys Foundation impacts the lives of the individuals Krysilis supports, their families, and Krysilis' employees.

Gifts to the Foundation can be designated to endowments established for the communities where Krysilis has facilities: Belmond, Clarion, Forest City and Nevada. These are restricted endowments by service area, thus the earnings will be spent only in the community specified by the donor. For example, if the Belmond endowment has $100,000 and the earnings from that endowment is 5%, Krysilis would receive approximately $5,000 to spend for facility maintenance, equipment or capital items in the Belmond service area. To create the potential for long-term financial support of Krysilis' mission, the goal of the Foundation is to spend only the earnings from the endowment funds, interest and dividend income, not the principal that was initially gifted. The Krys Foundation has hired an investment company to manage the endowment funds and its reinvested earnings.

Overseeing the administration of the Krys Foundation is the Krys Foundation's Board of Directors, a group of up to 12 individuals who bring a variety of vocations and perspectives to the decision-making process. The Board is comprised of parents of people supported by Krysilis, financial planners, attorneys, bank officers, CPAs, and other professionals. Krys Foundation Directors serve at the request of Krysilis' Board of Directors. Directors are knowledgeable, committed and keenly aware of Krysilis' mission and needs.

By establishing the Krys Foundation, it is now possible for Krysilis to more proactively schedule capital improvements according to each service area's greatest need and deferred maintenance schedule. Capital improvements and expenditures for Krysilis can now be funded through the Krys Foundation, which made its first payments from each of the Krysilis service area endowments in 2009 for computers needed for service documentation.

All foundation contributions greatly impact Krysilis and the individuals it supports on a long-term basis. As the Krys Foundation continues to grow, it is anticipated the Foundation's gifts to Krysilis will expand into larger capital improvements and renovations. Future projects funded by the Krys Foundation may include the replacement of roofs, heating and cooling systems, and wheelchairs, or the purchase of equipment that creates new vocational opportunities for the people supported by Krysilis.

Ensure Tomorrow... Today - Capital Campaign

Krysilis' first Capital Campaign – Ensure Tomorrow…Today – is an incremental step toward the goal of ensuring the long-term financial security of Krysilis. The campaign is divided into four areas: Belmond, Clarion, Forest City and Nevada. The campaigns have been completed in three communities with the final campaign–Nevada–to be completed in 2010. The total amount of grants and pledges received through 2009 totaled over $750,000, including a Community Development Block Grant of $350,000 which assisted in funding the Clarion Support Services Expansion Project (completed in 2009).

In addition to funding a large portion of the Clarion expansion project, the campaign is providing seed money for endowments within the Krys Foundation – one endowment for each of the communities in which Krysilis has facilities. Those seeds have already started to grow and blossom, as the Krys Foundation now makes annual contributions to Krysilis from the interest and dividends created by those initial contributions.

If you would like to donate to the Capital Campaign, please contact the Krysilis' development director for more information.
